THE TEAM BEHIND THE SESSION

The curator brings a musical perspective: the repertoire, the instrument and the people who know it. AKARA brings the recording and production work. Together, we shape a session around what makes the performance distinctive.
Before recording, we listen and agree on the details to capture. During the session, we refine the microphone position and listen back with the performer. Afterwards, we select takes, edit with care and prepare the source notes.
INSTRUMENT, SPACE, DETAIL
Let the instrument lead the recording.
The attack of a plucked string, the resonance of a ruan’s wooden body, the space after a note. We approach microphone placement through listening, leaving room for the instrument’s natural dynamics and decay.
AKARA handles high-resolution capture, careful editing and listening checks, keeping the connection between the performer and the finished sound. Source notes and the actual file specifications accompany each release.

Roland R-88
Neumann pencil microphones
Our field setup pairs the R-88 recorder with Neumann small-diaphragm microphones to capture the instrument in its own surroundings.
02 / AT THE SOURCE
24-bit / 192 kHz
Our high-resolution field recording format. The R-88 supports up to four channels at 192 kHz; recording and delivery formats are listed separately for each release.
03 / IN THE STUDIO
A dedicated recording chain.
Studio sessions use a more advanced recording setup, selected for the instrument and the production. Microphone placement, monitoring and careful review shape the result together.
